Years ago many people had a very difficult time controlling
their acne as well as removing scars created by deep blemishes.
All that was available was different variations of a homemade
acne treatment. Today it is different. There are many
creams, ointments and soaps that are a good and effective
acne treatment for your mild, moderate or severe acne.
The first plan of attack is normally using an acne treatment
which is topical; it is applied to the surface of the skin.
Some ointments are antibiotic creams used specifically to
reduce inflammation and control the acne from spreading further.
These can include erythromycin, clindamycin and various sulfa
drugs. Many times a topical antibiotic acne treatment is preferred
to ingesting the antibiotics because if used internally for
a long period of time, your body can become resistant to antibiotics.
Retinoids which include Retin A, Avita, Differin and Tazorac
are another form of topical treatment. They help to unclog
the pore which allows the blemish to begin to heal. Although
this acne treatment is very effective, many times it takes
weeks and even over a month to see any significant improvement.
Also, there are side effects to these creams. Check with your
doctor and question them thoroughly to ensure that this is
the best acne treatment
for you.
One over the counter preparation which is known far and wide
as being very effective as an acne treatment is benzoyl peroxide.
These products kill bacteria on contact and begin to clear
the skin within days. If the condition is very severe, a dermatologist
may prescribe an antibiotic along with the peroxide. If your
looking for a natural
acne treatment, this may not be best for you.
Another longstanding solution for an acne treatment is glycolic
and salicylic acid. These products have more of a drying and
peeling effect on the skin. They are used to unclog pores
and allow new cells to form replacing the top layer of the
skin.
When severe acne is involved and most every acne
solution has been tried, hormone therapy seems to be an
option today. Many times, an imbalance in hormones is what
caused the acne in the first place. If your physician tests
and discovers that your hormones are the problem, then the
best acne treatment as well as to help your health in general,
would be hormone injections or medication to rectify the situation.
As previously stated, there are also many ingested antibiotics
which can help severe acne. Again, you must be careful and
speak to your physician or dermatologist about this in length.
Long term antibiotic usage can do more harm than good to your
general health, so be cautious when making the decision to
use this as an acne treatment. Way the benefits against the
harm they can do and make an educated evaluation.
