Many adults who deal with serious acne conditions complain
because they feel that most of what exists on the market for
cures is geared toward teenage boys and girls. And that is
true, but as of late, there are many more products and even
online forums which are generated toward the person who is
experiencing an outbreak of adult acne.
It’s a fact that one in five adults suffer with acne;
usually between the ages of 25 and 40. But you are not imbalance
hormonally anymore (hopefully) so what is causing this sudden
outbreak of adult acne? You’ll be surprise to know that
what you’re dealing with is not so much different than
those teens we were just discussing.
Causes of Adult Acne
The top three causes of acne in those of a more mature age
are stress, stress and stress. Now let us add a few others;
birth control pills, diet, bad or old makeup, hormone changes
(yes, we have them also) and a poor cleansing routine.
Where does it begin?
Adult acne as well as teen acne usually begins with dead
cells that get clogged in our pores. We lovingly call them
‘blackheads.’ These pesky spots on our skin are
not dirt stuck in your pores, but oil and dead skin cells
that get stuck in your skin. When this gets exposed to the
air, it turns black, hence the name blackhead.
Does diet really affect acne outbreaks?
The jury is still out on this question. But this is what
we know for sure. A good diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables
and giving up sugar, diet drinks and junk food can only help
your adult acne situation. It will also help you with other
conditions in your body and help keep you younger looking
and feeling. If we were an automobile, we wouldn’t consider
putting soda in our tank. The car wouldn’t run. We are
not much different. It just takes us a bit longer to see the
affects.
Can I use the products on my face that I buy for my teen?
It depends on the product. We know first hand that Proactiv
can work on both teens and adults. Some products will say
for adult acne or adult body
acne. Most do not differentiate between the two. It will
take a bit of experimenting to find the perfect product for
you, but we always highly recommend Proactiv.
Should I go to a Dermatologist?
That is a very personal decision and can only be made when
you consider all of the factors. Have you tried every other
way to clear up your acne? There are many over the counter
products which are very effective and probably as effective
as some which are prescription. You could consider laser treatments,
but if you insurance does not cover them they will cost you
between $500 and upwards of $2000, depending on how many you
need. Also, many people think that going to a doctor will
help clear up your adult acne much quicker. That just isn’t
true. Whether you go to a dermatologist or use over the counter
remedies, time will have to pass before your face is clear
again.
